Case study
Sartor Offshore Rescue Ltd specialise in building, conversions and operations of multi-functional offshore support vessels. The company provides a full range of multi-role and dedicated Emergency Response and Rescue vessels to the offshore oil industry and employs around 250 mariners and 14 people on-shore at the office in Aberdeen, Scotland. Sartor wanted to review the way the company’s business administration and operating activities were carried out. With so many IT systems running in tandem, the organisation faced the challenge of improving the consistency of its processes. Sartor undertook an exhaustive review of potential solutions – to find a more integrated, extensive ERP (enterprise resource planning) solution that would address company requirements now, and in the future. Sartor deployed Microsoft Dynamics NAV and as a result, has improved process management, has better visibility, improved accounting functionality and operational suitability. John Bryce, managing director at Sartor Offshore Rescue Ltd, said: “Our previous supplier had not delivered the service and expertise that we required, and since switching to Aberdeen-based Encode, a division of Escape Business Technologies, we have already resolved the issues we were experiencing. Above all we wanted a simple IT solution that was flexible enough to meet our increasing needs, without being too complicated or difficult to implement. It also had to meet all our accounting requirements, as well as provide an effective development environment in which to operate complex logistics applications. “Dynamics NAV gives us considerable advantage in managing our development plans, and its close integration with other technologies based on Microsoft Windows will help us reduce integration time and expense. With the familiarity of the Microsoft tools, coupled with consistent ease of use, our employees were able to adapt to the system very quickly. “Since implementing Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Sartor managers have an up-to-date view of operations across the organisation. This information can be consolidated into the centralised Microsoft Dynamics NAV system, which means it is easy to access data and compare the effectiveness of each operational unit. End users can generate Key Performance Indicator reports to analyse business performance and help ensure optimum operational efficiency. These can also be used to compare levels of performance across the group. “Sartor employees can also track and trace goods effectively throughout the complete logistics flow. We can effectively measure operational efficiency and produce meaningful comparisons. It used to take weeks to pull together this type of information, but now we can do it instantly, which has had a positive impact on productivity and efficiency across the group. “Microsoft Dynamics NAV has also improved Sartor’s operational efficiency - we can effectively manage production orders, supply planning and capacity requirements planning as well. “Everyone at Sartor has enthusiastically embraced Microsoft Dynamics NAV. We were given a short demonstration by Encode consultant Mike McLeish, and haven’t looked back since. The ease of setup and tight integration with the Microsoft products we already use allowed us to get up and running quickly, and we’re already seeing increased productivity, reduced costs and smarter decision-making.” |
